Sony PlayStation Portable 2, Codenamed NGP

Yes, you see it right! That is Sony’s next-generation PlayStation Portable, codenamed as NGP.


This new hand-held gaming device will revolve around five key concepts: Revolutionary User Interface, Social Connectivity, Location-based Entertainment, Converging Real and Virtual Reality. Rumours had that Sony will be unveiling the new PSP sometime soon, but they finally did it today in Japan.

Here are some specifications of the new PSP:



■Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor

■5-inch touchscreen OLED display (960 x 544 resolution)

■Front and back cameras

■Dual analog sticks

■Connectivity: 3G, WiFi, GPS

■Rear-mounted touchpad

■Accelerometer / gyroscope motion sensing

■Digital compass

Games will be available on a “new media” and the display screen has now quadrupled the pixel count from the original PSP – yes, this is something big!

PSP2 will feature a brand new UI,called as LiveArea, which has multiple homescreens and built-in social networking through PlayStation Network.
